Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed they're planning to offer Lionel Messi new terms.

The Argentine's contract runs to 2021 and Bartomeu says he wants to extend it.

Bartomeu said: "Messi is still young, but we constantly see how he innovates in the game, it is soon, but next year we will have to talk to him (about a new contract)."

It would mark the ninth renewal of Messi in his Barca career.

The first two were in 2005, the third in 2007 and the fourth in 2008. The fifth came in 2009 after the first Treble of Barça. 2012, 2014 and 2017 were the years of the last three renewals.
