Barcelona plan to include players in their offer for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.
The France international is a target for Barca this summer, with Sevilla demanding in the region of €60m to sell.
Barca do not have the money available to meet Sevilla's valuation in a straight cash deal and instead are planning a swap proposal.
The Catalans have already brought in free agents Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero from Manchester City, while also bringing back Emerson Royal from his co-ownership arrangement with Real Betis.
Barca now have their sights set on a centre-half signing and Kounde is emerging as a priority choice, despite Sevilla's valuation. The new administration are prepared to offer players to Sevilla in exchange for the Frenchman.
Mundo Deportivo via Le 10 Sport says USA winger Konrad de la Fuente, Portugal U21 attack Francisco Trincão, or even France defender Clément Lenglet, are being discussed as possible makeweights.
For his part, Kounde feels ready to make the next move in his career.
Kounde said last week: "I am already in a big club, but I would like to evolve in an even bigger club. We'll see what the future holds, but it's something that remains in my mind."
