Barcelona midfielder Thiago shrugs off error-prone performance

Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara won't dwell on his error-prone performance in their Copa del Rey 2-2 draw with Malaga.

Thiago's sloppiness allowed the visitors to take a shock early lead at the Nou Camp, but the 21-year-old has not lost any confidence in his game.

"We've got a well-established style of play but sometimes you can make a mistake in a question of seconds, and it was my turn," he said. "You just have to forget it and move on. What hurts most is the work and sacrifice put in by your team-mates.

"This small mistake is annoying, but my progress and hunger for the game are the same. Confidence is growing day by day and progress is good."

Alexis Sanchez also came in for criticism for two first-half misses, but Tito Vilanova was quick to defend the 24-year-old Chile forward.

"Just like with Thiago, we need to help him," the Barca coach said on fcbarcelona.cat. "He's a young player that goes all out.

"If he missed those chances, it's because he worked hard to create them. We can forgive him his missed chances, but we can't forgive him if he doesn't try, and he tries."

"He's one of us and if we don't help him it will be more difficult for him."
