Barcelona members have rejected the club's planned changes to the badge.
The proposal by Josep Maria Bartomeu's board to alter it rejected by a general assembly before even needing a vote.
The move is unprecedented in recent history, as all proposals tend to be given the go-ahead after explanations by the directors.
"We are removing the point from the agenda and will make a timely reflection with the board to see how we can combine history, sentiment and new technologies," Bartomeu said after the rejection.
The new coat of arms was designed with the club's initials 'FCB' removed, while the bottom section that included the Azulgrana colours and a golden football was to increase in size.
Barcelona last updated their crest in 2002 under the guidance of Joan Gaspart.
