Barcelona and Manchester City have both attempted to sign Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.

Gazzetta dello Sport says the 20-year-old centre back has impressed for the Serie A title chasers this season, and it is believed that Inter are desperate to keep hold of the talent despite interest from some of Europe's elite clubs.

City were even willing to propose a swap deal involving Joao Cancelo, but Inter rejected the ambitious switch.

Cancelo had featured for the club during the 2017/18 campaign, on loan from Valencia, and has been unable to oust first choice right back Kyle Walker since arriving in the summer.

Bastoni progressed through the Atalanta youth academy, and has even succeeded in moving ahead of veteran Diego Godin in the club's pecking order.
