Barcelona legend Carles Puyol says Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is NOT the best in the world.

Puyol says Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and Barcelona's Gerard Pique are better defenders than Van Dijk.

In an interview with Marca, Puyol was asked: “Van Dijk has exploded [but] who is the best central defender in the world?"

“Gerard Pique, without a doubt," the former Barcelona man responded.

“And between Ramos and Pique?"

“Gerard Pique. He is the best centre-back in the world. We're different. He is key to Barcelona in everything he contributes: his leadership, how he competes.

“He is a phenomenon and a great friend."
