Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has defended Gerard Pique over his doco to confirm Antoine Griezmann was staying with Atletico Madrid.

Both the club and fans have expressed their discontent with the fact that Pique's production company was behind the footage which proved to be a big PR blow for Barcelona.

"I don't think that Pique was responsible for the decision that Griezmann took," Puyol stated at an Aldeas Infantiles charity event. "That he has a producer and that that producer makes a documentary, I don't see anything wrong.

"Many people may think that Pique has been the one who influenced him, but not at all. Griezmann takes his decision and it is a very important one for an external person to influence you on.

"I have no idea what happened [about the deal itself]. I am no longer at Barcelona, I am a fan and you will have to ask them."
