Barcelona icon Carles Rexach says Manchester City would be the ideal move for Lionel Messi.

Messi is set to leave PSG this summer after falling out with management.

A return to Barca has been mooted, but Rexach told Radio Marca: "The team in the world that plays like Barcelona played 10 years ago is Manchester City and that is the place where Messi could fit in to continue winning things.

"Messi always has to play at the first level. He should speak directly with (Pep) Guardiola to sign him , win another Champions League and go home. That would be possible because he always had a great relationship with Pep. If you look at football, City is a team where all the players have a profile similar to Barcelona's about 8 or 9 years ago.

"At City, everyone treats the ball very well and plays high-flying football. They have a lot of possession of the ball, they are never in a hurry, they constantly touch the ball, they run little and his arrival would cause an explosion and unusual expectation worldwide. Perhaps it would mean the same explosion that happened in Argentina after being world champion."
