Barcelona hoped to announce Depay deal Sunday

Barcelona are working on the signing of Lyon striker Memphis Depay on a free transfer, but negotiations have stalled slightly.

The Catalan side wanted to announce the striker as their new signing ahead of the Netherlands' first game at Euro 2020 this Sunday night, but that now looks unlikely.

Depay's Netherlands kicked off their tournament at 21.00 CEST at the Johan Cruyff Arena against Ukraine.

Those at the club are confident, however, that there won't be a repeat of the Georginio Wijnaldum situation, who was pinched by Paris Saint-Germain at the last minute, says Marca.

The original idea was to announce the signing last Friday, but some delays in negotiations prevented this, with the player also saying he's fully focused on this summer's international tournament.
