Barcelona have handed Victor Valdes and his agent a week to accept their new contract offer.
Gines Carvajal, the goalkeeper's agent, admitted over the weekend that the two parties were "far apart" in negotiations over a new deal for Valdes.
Local Catalunya radio reports that Barca now want an answer from Valdes before the weekend.
Valdes is seeking the same wages as Iker Casillas enjoys at Real Madrid - £8 million-a-year - while Barca's final offer was for four years and worth £3 million-a-season.
Manchester United are monitoring developments closely.
