Manchester City are launching a massive bid for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Sport says Barcelona fear they're about to be gazumped by City for the Dutchman ahead of the January market.

City are prepared to meet Ajax's €80m asking price - so blowing Barca out of the water. The Catalans had baulked at €50m last summer.

For his part, De Jong has insisted he'd prefer to see out the season with Ajax.

He said, "For the moment I just stay with Ajax. At least another year and maybe two or three years. I am really enjoying myself here."
