Barcelona directors have been left in the dark over the removal of Ernesto Valverde, it has been revealed.
Valverde was sacked on Monday and replaced by Quique Setien, with Barca turning to the former Real Betis coach after being rejected by Al Sadd boss Xavi.
Sport says the decision of Barca football chiefs Eric Abidal and Ramon Planes to hold talks with Xavi in Doha caught several board members unawares.
"Nobody explained anything to anyone," one source said, "they have improvised without consulting the board."
Some directors say the treatment of Valverde has cast the club in a bad light and left the current board looking "weak".
President Josep Maria Bartomeu's tenure will be challenged in 2021 at Barca's next election.
