Barcelona are confident securing Lionel Messi to a contract extension.

The Argentina captain's current deal expires in 12 months' time, but Mundo Deportivo says there's a confidence of the midfielder agreeing to a new deal.

Messi will be tabled a three-year contract extension - which will include a break clause.

The Barca skipper would be able to terminate his contract and leave on a free transfer at any time over the length of the new deal.

Barca's directors are confident Messi will put pen to paper, having maintained "constant" contact with his father and agent, Jorge Messi.
