Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has held crunch talks with Ivan Rakitic about his playing chances this season.

Mundo Deportivo says the Croatian veteran has been warned he faces reduced playing time this term after the arrival of Frenkie de Jong. Valverde also plans to play Sergi Roberto in midfield more.

Rakitic was urged to think carefully about his future during his meeting with Valverde. The midfielder has been linked with PSG and Manchester United this summer.

Just this week, Rakitic stated: "It does not hurt me to talk about my future, you have to understand that football is working like that. On the one hand, I'm proud that other teams are watching because it means I'm doing good things. I only see myself here.

"I've talked to the president about a lot of things, but right now the club has other things to do than think about me. The president wants the same thing as me."
