Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany has given the timeline of Gerard Pique's retirement.

The veteran defender played his final game at the Nou Camp yesterday for victory over Almeria.

Alemany later revealed: "We knew it from the beginning of the week, we left Gerard the moment and ways to communicate it.

"Now we have time to think about whether we should strengthen ourselves. From Tuesday we will have a month to look at it.

"Inigo Martinez? No comment, he has a contract (with Athletic Bilbao)."
