Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has apologised to supporters for their Champions League collapse at Liverpool.

On the eve of today's Copa del Rey final against Valencia, Messi revisited their shock 4-0 reverse at Anfield.

He said, "We did a match similar to the one in Rome the previous year (elimination in the quarter-finals).

"We were not too bad in the first period, but during the second we were not up to standards and Liverpool was well above. In the Champions League we have lost only two games, in Rome and Liverpool, but these are significant matches.

"In Liverpool we gave the impression of not fighting in the second half and for that we have to apologise to the fans and do everything to win in the King's Cup."
