Barcelona captain Busquets: I trust the president and Leo

Barcelona captain Sergi Busquets insists Lionel Messi will make a contract decision in his own time.

While with Argentina at the Copa America, Messi has come off contract from Barca.

Barca president Joan Laporta was voted in for a second time earlier this year insisting to members he was the best candidate to convince Messi to sign a new deal and stay.

However for the moment, Messi is a free agent as Laporta and his administration try to find a way to fund the club captain's new deal.

Asked about the situation, Spain captain Busquets told El Partidazo de la Cope via Le 10 Sport, stating: "We have to give him time.

"I trust the president (Joan Laporta) and Leo's feelings.

"I wish him the best and hope we can continue to play together for years to come."

Interestingly Busquets, along with Sergi Roberto, have been asked by Laporta to renegotiate their current deals to assist the club's attempts ease their debt problems.

While Messi is leading Argentina at the Copa America in Brazil, Busquets is captain of Spain and is preparing for their Euro 2020 semifinal later on Tuesday against Italy.
