Barcelona candidate Vilajoana reveals plan to 'shield' top La Masia kids from Europe's giants

Barcelona presidential candidate Xavi Vilajoana admits part of his project will be to secure La Masia's academy players to tighter contracts.

Vilajoana accepts Barca have seen some of their best young players leave the club too easily in recent years.

He told Marca: "Shielding La Masía means acting across the board. First it is that young players feel that they have a very serious sports career at the club. That they have a future projection to reach at least Barça B and then, if possible, the first team.

"And second, when you sign a player from a European team, you have to introduce a pro Masía clause whereby if you sign a player, the home club can't sign you as a youth from the academy for x years.

"If you sign a player like Dembélé from Borussia, it can't be that after two weeks they sign Sergio Gómez from La Masía. This is a lack of transversal vision, a lack of general club vision. You have to be organised so that the chances of selling the players with the greatest projection are reduced."
