Barcelona candidate Jordi Farre: Buying Neymar would launch 'virtuous circle'

Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Farre says he'd be happy to sign PSG star Neymar.

Neymar left Barca three years ago in controversial circumstances after PSG agreed to meet his world record €222m buyout clause. The Brazilian's departure caused anger in Cataluyna and also amongst the Barca support.

But Farre, who is among the candidates to stand for the January 24 election, insists he will try to bring Neymar back should he be elected president. Farre argues the return of the PSG star, despite the cost, would create a positive impact on several of the factors currently dragging on the club.

He told AS via Le 10 Sport: "The other day, I was asked if I wanted to recruit Neymar or a player like Neymar. Obviously I will, because a player like him would launch what (Joan) Laporta defined as the virtuous circle, if you have the best players, you win titles and you have more income. We cannot understand one without the other.

"I don't see a problem of this calibre, what happens is that it is a poorly funded club.

"Long-term debt must be refinanced because it is now short. That's why Espai Barça is basic. We need to change the credit model for the concession model. The debt must be stopped."

Neymar enjoyed four years with Barca, twice winning the LaLiga and also the Champions League. Significantly, he also maintains friendships with several senior Barca players, including Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique.

Local businessman Farre failed to win the 2015 Barcelona presidency elections, but is confident of success next month.
