Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa says blocking a move for Manchester City defender Eric Garcia goes beyond finances.

It's been suggested Barca's three candidates won't approve the deal as the €10m fee involved is too rich given Garcia is off contract in June.

But Freixa goes further, with Garcia being a former La Masia graduate: "I am opposed to it less for the price than for the concept.

"A player who leaves must return for less than what was paid.

"I don't think we have to pay one of our competitors for a player who was ours and who would be transferred for free in June."
