Barcelona candidate Font not giving up on Man City boss Guardiola

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has reaffirmed plans to bring Pep Guardiola back to the club.

Font has spoken openly about putting together a project which would eventually see Barca's former coach return to the club in some sort of a capacity.

Font's choice of coach should he win election is Xavi, currently in charge of Al Sadd, but he has also discussed finding a role for Guardiola in his administration.

However, those plans appear to have hit an obstacle after Guardiola committed to a new contract with Manchester City on Friday.

Former Barca coach Guardiola signed a new deal with Manchester City to 2023 - but that still hasn't put off Font over his aim to bring the Catalan 'home'.

Quoted by Le 10 Sport, he declared: "I am very happy for him because it means he will continue to do what he wants where he wants.

"We wish him the best.

"We hope that sooner or later we can create the conditions for him so that he can return to the club to help us."

Barca will hold their presidential election on January 24 with Font among the frontrunners. The Catalan giants currently are being guided by an interim board after the resignation of former president Josep Maria Bartomeu earlier this month.
