Barcelona and Lionel Messi 'calm' about contract plans

Barcelona and Lionel Messi are happy to wait to commence new contract talks.

Messi's deal expires in June and he has been free to sign pre-contract terms with any foreign team. However, the Argentine has so far been happy to focus on the season and delay talks about his contract until the summer.

Mundo Deportivo says Barca remain happy with the situation. New president Joan Laporta is currently conducting an audit of their finances and until they are clear about their situation he is reluctant to make a first offer.

But the relationship between Messi and Laporta remains strong. Indeed, the pair met for lunch yesterday to mark winning the Copa del Rey.
