Wigan Athletic's appeal to have Maynor Figueroa's red card rescinded has proved futile.
The Latics were hoping to get the Honduran international off the ban he received for a straight red card in Monday night's 3-0 loss to Newcastle United when he brought down Papiss Cisse in the box but the suspension will stand.
"We are disappointed, clearly, because we felt we put forward an excellent case," said Wigan boss Roberto Martinez.
"We will draw a line under the incident, and continue our preparations for Saturday."
Figueroa will now miss the weekend's clash with QPR after the Football Association appeals panel decided that referee Mike Jones was correct in making his decision.
