Karim Benzema scored twice and Bale marked his return from injury with a goal and an assist as Real Madrid beat Villarreal 4-2 to press their Primera Division title claims.
Jese Rodriguez also struck in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti said: "We are doing well because we are really focused. It was a different type of match today because the energy was different. We have suffered a little because Villarreal played well, but we played well on the break and made the most of them."
