The 21-year old Welshman had a stellar season for Spurs, taking out the award ahead of Dutchman van der Vaart.
The former Real Madrid man, who was also brilliant for the North London club, says it was certainly a prize well-deserved by Bale.
"It was a great honour. First year and straight into the top seven names, I was really proud," the Tottenham first-year player told the club's official website.
"But Gareth was great and he deserved to win it. He also had a great season."
