The Ivory Coast centre-back has enjoyed a smashing start to life at Old Trafford, winning the club's Player of the Month award for August, having only joined from Villarreal in the summer.
There has already been talk of a likeness between 22-year-old Bailly and former United star Stam but the Reading manager admits he cannot really comment on that.
"From what I've seen of Bailly he's been doing very well," said Stam on SkyBet's YouTube channel.
"I've heard that he's been compared to a certain player. I can't tell you if he can do that, but he's got the quality, the physique, the pace and he looks comfortable on the ball as well."
Regarding United's new-look defence guiding Jose Mourinho's side to the Premier League title, Stam admits there has to be more than just a quality back four getting the job done.
He added: "Is the United defence good enough to win the title?
"That's always a tricky question. You always need to defend as a team. Nowadays we expect a lot from the strikers to defend as well.
"You need to be willing to work very hard the full length of the pitch to not concede goals. If United can do that and everybody's willing to do that, then I'm sure they are going to be winning the title."
