Back-up Chelsea keeper Eduardo re-signs with the club

Chelsea have tied down backup goalkeeper Eduardo to a new one year contract.

Eduardo joined Chelsea from Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb over the summer on a free transfer and the Portuguese international was clearly signed as a backup to Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begovic.

Unsurprisingly, Eduardo did not feature at all for Chelsea this season but despite his lack of participation, the Blues have decided to reward the veteran custodian with a brand new contract.

Speaking after the confirmation of the deal, Eduardo said: "I am very happy to stay at Chelsea for another year. This season has been very successful for the club, and everybody has made me feel like a part of the family. I hope next season can be just as positive and we can win many more trophies."

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo also expressed his delight by saying: "Since joining us last summer, Eduardo has been a model professional. He has used his wealth of experience at the top level to bring the very best from his fellow goalkeepers and has been a reliable, popular and respected member of the squad. We are delighted he has chosen to commit his future to Chelsea."
