Cesar Azpilicueta believes Chelsea can hand Tottenham a telling blow to their title hopes if they beat them at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
When asked by Standard Sport if Tottenham will be out of contention should Chelsea triumph this evening, Azpilicueta said: "Every game that passes where we get the points, it's tougher for our opponents to catch us.
"It is our target to get points, win matches and get as far ahead as possible because we have 19 games to play and there is still a very long way to go.
"We couldn't imagine after the Arsenal game (when they lost 3-0 in September) that we could be in this position now.
"When we were eighth in the table, we couldn't think about getting first position straight away.
"We had to go step by step, game by game, that's what we did and we have to keep going.
"The winning record is just a number. The record we want to get is to win the League. We have to achieve that in May.
"But if we keep winning more games and get this record, then that will help us a lot in the future."
