AZ Alkmaar confirm interest in Southampton midfielder Clasie

AZ Alkmaar are interested in signing Jordy Clasie from Southampton.

The 27-year-old Dutchman is not a regular first team starter at the Saints under Ralph Hasenhuttl, as he has fallen down the pecking order.

AZ inquired about the availability of Clasie, while the Daily Echo states they got a positive response from the Saints.

Now it is a matter of negotiating a fee, as the Dutchman still as a year left on his contract.

The Saints would like to get some of the £8 million they paid for him from a sale, but they know that it may not be a huge fee given the contract situation.

Incoming Alkmaar head coach Arne Slot admitted the club wants to sign Clasie.

He said to reporters: "Jordy himself is enthusiastic, it is now up to Max Huiberts to get out with him and with Southampton.

"I spoke to Jordy about what his role could be in the team.

"Jordy is good at the ball, good at the passing and that, in combination with our players with depth, is what we are looking for at that position."
