Ayre to stay put as Liverpool chief amidst 1860 Munich GM claims

Ian Ayre will continue in his role as Liverpool CEO until the end of the current campaign, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

Reports had emerged recently that Ayre had been lined up as the new general manager of German side 1860 Munich and the club owner Hasan Ismaik has confirmed that he has been in talks with the 53-year-old over a potential move.

While Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are aware that Ayre is currently in negotiations regarding a move to Germany, it has been revealed that he will stay put as CEO of the Reds at least until the end of the season.

But according to Ismalik, Ayre seems set for Germany once his duties at Anfield are complete.

He told Bavarian newspaper Munchner Merkur: "We want to get the best people to help us.

"Peter Cassalette (club president) and I have led the conversations with him. He is the right person for our future.

"The fact that we were able to convince such a big name to come from a world association to 1860, we are proud. That was not easy,

"When he found out about the tradition of the club, he was very enthusiastic."
