Heart of Midlothian midfielder Ryan Stevenson could be set for a surprise return to former club Ayr United.
The 27-year old is wanted back at Somerset Park and could head back to Scotland's First Division as Ayr's billionaire sponsor Calvin Ayre looks to back the move.
It is believed that Stevenson, who has refused to play for Hearts because of a dispute over wages, is the target for Ayr boss Brian Reid who has been given a cash injection by Ayre.
Stevenson, who kicked off his career with St Johnstone in 2002, left Ayr in 2010 to join the Jambos where he has been a regular prior to the recent financial problems of the Edinburgh club.
