The Australia men's team – the Socceroos – will take part in the 2020 Copa America, South America's elite international football competition.
The tournament will be staged between June 12 and July 12 next year, jointly hosted by Colombia and Argentina.
FFA chairman Chris Nikou, chief executive David Gallop and Mark Falvo, the organisation's head of corporate strategy, international and government relations, are currently negotiating the fine details of the arrangement in France at the FIFA Congress, which is being staged around the Women's World Cup.
"They are trying to finalise the commercial and organisational aspects of Australia's participation," an FFA spokesman said.
