Auba's back! Arsenal second-half display blows away insipid Newcastle

Arsenal looked back at their swaggering best in a 3-0 win over a poor Newcastle United outfit on Monday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang must have thought his bad luck would continue when he missed an open goal from close range in what was a drab first-half.

But the Gabon international, who had prior to kick-off scored just six times this season, was able to fire Arsenal into the lead five minutes after half-time.

Thomas Partey, making his first start since returning from injury, pinged a brilliant pass to his captain, who beat Emil Krafth before firing past Karl Darlow.

The Gunners made it 2-0 ten minutes later thanks to some fine work from Emile Smith Rowe, whose beautifully weighted square pass was fired home by Bukayo Saka.

A third goal wasn't far away as right-back Cedric, who took his chance starting ahead of Hector Bellerin, hugged the byline before setting up Aubameyang for a tap-in.

The result means Mikel Arteta's team continue their impressive form since the Christmas period and now sit in 10th with 27 points.

But as good as Arsenal were in the second-half, they were certainly helped by an insipid Newcastle effort.

Steve Bruce's problems are mounting, and if the Emirates performances continue, it is hard to see how the club will avoid relegation this season.
