Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann: Derby win a great performance; fans almost had me in tears

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann admits the home fans had him almost in tears after victory over Real Madrid.

Griezmann scored in the 3-1 win on Sunday.

He later said: "I'm looking to be closer to the area, where I can do the most damage. Sometimes I don't play and that leads me to go down to touch the ball, but it's not what the team needs. I want to be higher, touch fewer balls, but do more damage.

"Cholo has a lot to do with it. I am a team player and I try to be an example in everything. Sometimes you have to be down, clear at the penalty spot, defend and it turns out normal for me. It is something that I feel, I see my teammates behind and I think that I cannot fail them and I must help them.

"There were moments. We came out very well in the first half, but in the end we were too far behind. They hurt us. In the second we came out stronger, higher and it helped us make it 3-1. Very happy with the performance of the team.

"What happened in Valencia was an accident."

He added, "I have been on the verge of some tears falling. I am very proud and very happy here. I'm going to leave everything in the field to listen to songs. My son will be happy and will wear the Atleti shirt."
