Atletico Madrid return to third after defeating Espanyol

Atletico Madrid returned to third place on Sunday as they came back from a goal down to defeat Espanyol 3-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Sergi Darder opened the scoring as he gave the visitors the lead in the 38th minute with a wonderful effort, but Espanyol were left frustrated going into the half-time break as a VAR decision ruled that Alvaro Morata was onside in the build-up to Angel Correa's equaliser.

Morata was once again involved as Atleti were able to get in front for the first time in the match, with the striker showing his strength before firing into the top corner 13 minutes after the interval, which is his sixth goal in as many games.

In stoppage time, Koke gave Los Rojiblancos a two-goal advantage after a Diego Costa cross was dummied by Hector Herrera and then converted by the Atleti captain.
