Atletico Madrid are ready to move for Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso ahead of the January transfer window.

The Spanish left back has fallen behind Emerson Palmieri in the pecking order under Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge this season, leading to doubts over his future.

Cadena SER says Atletico have lined up a move for Alonso as they look to bolster their defensive options after a disappointing start to the campaign.

It could initially be a loan deal similar to the one that took Alvaro Morata to the Wanda Metropolitano at the beginning of the year before he completed a permanent move.

The 28-year-old is viewed as a set-piece specialist and provides a goal threat from defence.
