Atletico Madrid president Erique Cerezo insists they still have much to play for this season.

Atletico are out of the Champions League and Copa del Rey.

Cerezo said, "We are aware that we would all have liked to continue in the Champions League and in the Copa del Rey. Unfortunately this is not the case and now we must focus on having a great second round, on getting the Champions League place for next season and reaching a better position."

On new signing Matt Doherty, formerly of Tottenham, the president also said: "He is a player with extensive experience in British and international football with his country.

"His incorporation strengthens our defence and makes the right-back position more competitive. In addition, his versatility allows him to play in forward positions."
