Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez says they set the standard in intensity for their thrashing of Real Madrid.

Los Rojiblancos beat Real Madrid 7-3 in a friendly in New Jersey, and the Spain international underlined his teammates' delight with the result.

"Of course there has been joy in the dressing room as it is a very nice victory," Saul said.

"We are happy with how things went as we played well and pressed.

"[Intensity] is something we want to convey to the new players.

"When you wear Atletico Madrid's colours you must always try to do your best.

"We have to be calm as it was just a friendly, but we are very happy with the work we are doing."
