Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke ready for captaincy

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke is ready to take a bigger leadership role next season.

Koke says he will be in charge of passing on the team's philosophy to the players who will sign in the future.

"I've been a vice-captain for several years and I'll try to convey what Atletico Madrid are about to the people who come here and take a step forward," the new senior captain said after the 2-2 draw against Levante.

"It won't be just me, as Jose Maria Gimenez, Saul Niguez and Jan Oblak are also important people who can convey the team's philosophy and that means putting young people in charge.

"We always reinvent ourselves and that is what we are going to do and I hope new players will adapt as quickly as possible to the philosophy of the club.

"It will be an exciting season, with many new people, young or less young.

"It's a great challenge for us and we have to be more united than ever.

"Very important people have left and I want to thank them for all they have done for Atletico Madrid."
