Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois' plaque at the Wanda Metropolitano was removed on Monday.
The Belgian goalkeeper had said in the run-up to the Champions League final that he was now on the good side of history, in reference to the final lost to Real Madrid in Lisbon when he played for Atlético.
On Monday, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo responded to the desire of some Atletico fans to remove Courtois' award plate in this way:
"If you want to remove Courtois' plaque, go with an axe and shovel and remove it," Cerezo declared.
Hours later, the Belgian goalkeeper's plaque on the Wanda Metropolitano's walkway of legends has been removed.
