Atletico Madrid coach Simeone: We can't think about title challenge

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone wants his players to go game by game.

Atletico meet Champions League opponents Lokomotiv Moscow tonight just days after their impressive win against Barcelona.

Simeone prefers to only think about the next game and this has long been his mantra, but the Atleti coach has admitted that long-term ambitions do exist at the capital city club.

"We're doing things well and those around us have their opinions," he said when asked if Atletico Madrid are LaLiga Santander title contenders in a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

"I don't understand any other way of understanding football than going game by game, but that doesn't mean there aren't other aspirations.

"The important thing is always when the season is over, to see where you got to and if you were able to meet objectives.

"The journey is about good moments, difficult moments. The consistency of hard work brings overall consistency, which is the most difficult thing to find in life."

With four points from three games, Atleti still have a lot to play for in their group and Simeone was asked about the group's situation.

"Knowing the Champions League, I know this competition doesn't wait for you," he said.

"This is an important game against an opponent that works well tactically, they play well on the counter attack.

"We played good in the game in Russia, but couldn't take our chances."
