Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is upset for Antoine Griezmann over his Ballon d'Or snub.

As a World Cup and Europa League winner, many believe Griezmann deserved the award ahead of Real Madrid's winner Luka Modric.

Simeone said: "Playing at Atlético is much more difficult than elsewhere because our history has always been based on hard work and redoubling our efforts to bring us closer to the most important situations.

"As for Griezmann, I will repeat what he said. If I were in his place, I would be happy with what happened to me this year. He was world champion and that's very difficult. After, everyone can decide or choose what seems most appropriate. I want to congratulate Modric because he has had a great season. But for me the best were (Raphael) Varane and Griezmann."
