Atletico Madrid coach Simeone unimpressed by Pique-RFEF leaks: Clearly they didn't want us

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was left unimpressed by this week's leaked recordings involving Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and RFEF president Luis Rubiales.

It's emerged Pique's company organised with the RFEF to take the Supercopa to Saudi Arabia.

Recordings of Pique and Rubiales discussing the switch in 2018 and 2019 have been released.

Simeone was unimpressed and said today: "In the same way that we feel proud to compete in the way we have competed these ten years, we feel reflected with the teams that fight to be close: Athletic, Sevilla, Real, Betis... We are in the same bag.

"What appears in the information that with a view to the Supercopa in Arabia there is no doubt that economically, from what appears in the information, the Federation would be favored if Real Madrid and Barcelona go, they will have to explain it better and we will stay calm."

Asked about Pique's apparent conflict of interest, Simeone also said: "I do not enter those situations.

"What, beyond being an extraordinary footballer, he is intelligent, he has his company in parallel and they are procedures that do not go together. He plays for Barcelona, but I repeat that it is clear from the information, if there is not a more specific explanation from the Federation, that Barcelona and Real Madrid should go, it's not very difficult to understand."
