Atletico Madrid coach Simeone: Too many games left to say Real Madrid clash title decider

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone says their clash with Real Madrid on Sunday won't be a title decider.

Simeone has recognised that, even though his Atletico Madrid side have a five-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand, there is still a long way to go before they are crowned champions.

Los Rojiblancos take on Real Madrid at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday afternoon, but the Argentine was keen to make clear that this game is the same as any other, despite it being a derby.

"The title race is very beautiful," Simeone remarked during Saturday's pre-match press conference.

"Tomorrow two teams that are fighting for similar situations are facing each other. It's three points, that's for sure. There's still a lot of games left to play."

Simeone was quizzed on Joao Felix and Angel Correa, as it seems as though only one is getting the nod at present. So, what qualities do they bring to the team?

"It's clear that they have different characteristics," he explained.

"Each [player] gives us certain things: Correa participates more in the work of the team and Joao has things that no one else who will play tomorrow has.

"In terms of numbers, Joao's numbers are very good. They will both play, one will start and the other will probably have to wait, but they will both play."

Joao Felix was the talk of social media after his celebration against Villarreal last weekend, even though it was later revealed that it was in the direction of Renan Lodi and not Simeone. Nevertheless, his coach doesn't see any issues with the Portuguese player.

"He seems very good," Simeone noted. "He's fine, as is the whole group.

"We are in an extraordinary moment. We are playing big matches, which is what the players are preparing for."

Given Atletico's lead at the top of the table, does Simeone think that a win rules Real Madrid out of the title race?

"A few games ago we were talking about a title race with Madrid and Barcelona with dead and buried, and look where they are now," he said.

"We know how difficult the title race is."
