Atletico Madrid coach Simeone satisfied with victory over Monaco

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was satisfied with their 2-0 Champions League win over AS Monaco.

A deflected own goal and Antoine Griezmann sealed the result in the first-half.

"It was very good until the 70th minute and they we lacked energy, while the opponent got better," Simeone said after the match as he was asked for his analysis.

"With the introduction of [Radamel] Falcao, he gave them more experience and the freedom they had from losing 2-0 meant they could play more freely."

With the final being held at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano and with Atletico now into the knockout rounds, Simeone was asked about their chances of going all the way.

"I don't think about that much because it's far away," he said.

"It wouldn't do us any good to analyse and think about and get excited about that.

"Reality is what matters.

"We've been putting together a very good Champions League campaign and will be in the last 16 again.

"We needed to qualify.

"Since the Champions League started we have been clear about our plan as a result of what happened last year.

"Apart from the Borussia Dortmund game, where we became disorganised at the end, we've been having a very good campaign."
