Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone happy with Athletic Bilbao point

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was happy with their 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao.

The Argentine feels his side did their best to try to gain three points but all remaining games now must be treated like cup finals.

"The aim of both sides was always try to win," he said in his post-match press conference.

"We started the first ten minutes well, then they positioned themselves better and they won the second balls and did not let us attack.

"The [Athletic] goal came, then came our reaction after a very nice move.

"In the second we were closer to the victory, [Santiago] Arias's chance was the clearest, he could've given us the victory in a stadium in which it's always hard to win.

"We have a final left in each game."

Diego Costa cancelled out Iker Muniain's opener for Athletic. Simeone was asked about whether the team needed more solidity before being able to play Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa together, and he seemed to confirm that was the case.

"Seeing what I see and knowing the squad, I interpret this situation to be like this today," he said.

"Over time, they will be able to coexist.

"We understood that Marcos [Llorente] could give us some incision like the he did, some sprints, some passes and the dirty work," he said.
