Athletic Bilbao sporting director Rafa Alkorta has insisted coach Marcelino's future is tied to the club.

Athletic are holding elections this summer and are set to have a new president and board before the start of next season.

However, Alkorta insists Marcelino will be offered a new deal, while he is also coming off contract.

"We will do what we consider best for the club and if that is to renew him, we will do it," he said, referring to Marcelino.

Alkorta added: "I will continue working until June ... and then I don't know what will happen. I will work to the maximum with my entire team with the hope that the day will come and see what happens the next."
