Athletic Bilbao coach Valverde happy with victory at Mirandes

Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde was happy with their 3-0 win at Mirandes on Sunday.

Valverde said he was pleased with the performance in the Lions' preseason win.

After Saturday's match against Newcastle United in England, the boss was keen to ensure more of his squad got some miles in their legs ahead of the new season.

“We're making good progress. For us today was a different kind of challenge to yesterday," Valverde said.

“We wanted to make sure everyone in the squad got some playing time. We also have young people with us who are working well. All in all, I'm quite happy."

Peru Nolaskoain put the Lions ahead in the first half and Asier Villalibre settled the affair with a brace in the second 45.

Valverde admitted he was impressed with the display shown by strikers Villalibre and Gorka Guruzeta tonight.

“It's good that the strikers are scoring goals," the manager added. “We could even have got some more goals today. So, that's great."
