Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde was pleased with his players for their 4-1 win at VfL Bochum.

Raul Garcia, Inaki Williams and Asier Villalibre (2) struck for Bilbao.

Valverde said, "It was a good test because it was already seen in the first half that the pace was high and the two teams were getting involved with very high and intense pressing.

"You can tell that they are also approaching the start of the competition and for us it has been very good. In the first half I think we created goal situations to have scored clearly and in the second we were more effective and after losing we were able to react.

"The other day we generated chances and we could not transform them and today we have transformed them. That always gives you no peace of mind, because you have to keep working, but you see that it is a matter of insisting."
