Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde was delighted with victory over Real Sociedad.
Los Rojiblancos won this Basque derby thanks to a brace by striker Iñaki Williams.
"We played at a really high level and we're happy with the three points. It was important for us to win at home. It was a derby and we know how tense and lively it is and what it means for both teams," said Valverde.
"We dominated the first half, we were very good. At the start of the second half they pushed up the pitch and created some dangerous situations.
"Then we found our composure and that's how we made it 2-0. They pressed us at the end and had a few chances to score, but I think, in general, we controlled the game well."
He added: "We have to keep pushing to achieve the goals we set ourselves. I don't look at the standings too much, but of course we're in the decisive phase now. Every game is extremely important and winning matches is essential."
